Hey girl Hey!
Do you do Smoothies? I’m a huge fan of smoothies! Super easy to make, I can get a ton of nutrients in one cup, and my kiddos love them!
I have some tried and true recipes that are my go to’s but I LOVE experimenting with new recipes all the time! Gonna be honest, I’ve definitely had some smoothie fails! It’s best to keep it simple if you’re experimenting unless you’re down with dumping out a blender full of “didn’t work out” smoothie down the drain. That said, I do have TWO that I love and that I make every week!
The first one is my favorite and I have it almost every day since I use it as my post workout shake! The second one is lighter, brighter, and green! And I make it 2-3 times per week!
Post Workout Smoothie: Chocolate Protein Cold Brew
So if you read my about me page then you know that I LOVE cold brew coffee. Like, it’s my JAM and I wake up excited about it everyday. Yeah, I know that means that I’m probably addicted to it but I like it and it’s my thing! I’ve tried hot coffee and it’s ok, but I’d rather have a cold brew! One of favorite ways to drink cold brew is in my post workout shake! It’s so good!
- 1 Cup of Cold Brew Coffee – I love Chameleon Cold Brew!
- 1 Cup of Milk of your Choice – I use Vanilla Cashew Milk!
- 1-2 Scoops of Chocolate Protein Powder – I use Orgain or Lean by Plexus!
- 1 cup of Ice
- Add water as needed for desired Consistency.
Blend together until smooth! You can add ½ a banana for more sweetness but I usually don’t as my protein powder has stevia in it and I find it to be sweet enough!
Refreshing Tropical Green Smoothie
Ok, onto the green smoothie. Now I know that green smoothies get a bad wrap because if you’re not careful they can turn out tasting like last week’s grass clippings. Yuck. My advice is to stick to the 60/40 rule if you are experimenting. That’s 60% fruit and 40% green veggies! Once your taste buds evolve you can start leaning more in the veggie direction until you find a balance that you like. I actually quite like mostly veggie smoothies but the rest of my family is not gonna jump on that train so I compromise and add some sweetness with more fruit!
This one is the perfect balance of healthy and sweet!
- 2 cups Spinach
- 2 cups filtered Water
- 1 cup Ripe mango chunks
- 1 cup Ripe Pineapple Chunks
- 1 Frozen + Ripe Banana
With green smoothies, you want to make sure they are blended properly or they might turn out chunky or grainy. I like to blend my greens with ½ the water first until completely smooth before adding my fruits.
Also, you can avoid using ice if you use frozen fruit! I keep ½ bananas in little baggies in my freezer for smoothies! This is also a great way to avoid throwing out overly ripe fruit! The riper it is the sweeter it is so you can always just peel and freeze your ripe fruit to save for smoothies!
More Smoothie Goodies!
I’m a huge fan of the Vitamix Blender and use it so much! It was definitely an investment but we’ve had it for 5+ years and it’s still working amazingly well! I love it because it is so versatile. You can make everything from smoothies to hot soup in this thing!
These glass smoothie bottles are great too! Super affordable and versatile. You can use them for your smoothies, for green juices if you wanna try your hand at that, or for water!
Alright! That’s it! I would love to hear from you if you try one of these smoothies! Also, please share your favorite smoothie recipe with me! I’d love to try it and give you a shout out!
