You’re probably here because you’re looking for proven strategies to help you grow on Instagram this year. So much has changed on Instagram in the past few years, both in the way we use the platform and in the ways that you can genuinely grow a loyal and engaged audience. But don’t worry, as a full-time Influencer and Influencer Coach, I’m going to share 6 proven strategies that have helped myself (and my students) grow on Instagram in 2022.
6 Proven Strategies that help you grow your Instagram in 2022
1. Post Reels
Going into this post you probably knew that I was going to say Instagram reels. But it actually takes the number one spot on our list because using Instagram reels is honestly the best (and fastest) way to grow your account in 2022.
Essentially, Instagram came out about a year ago and said, “Do you want to grow on Instagram? Great. Post reels”.
If you’re feeling intimidated or overwhelmed by having to switch to video or show your face more on Instagram, don’t worry! I’ve created a guide with over 50+ Instagram reel ideas (for multiple niches) to help you get started. And the best part? No dancing!
2. Don’t only post Instagram reels
Instagram also says, “Sharing across formats (like Reels, Stories, Instagram Video, etc.) can help you find new followers and expand your reach.”
Here’s the thing they don’t mention… In feed photos. This is interesting as you can see that Instagram is shifting right now to be a very video-based platform. This doesn’t mean that you can’t or shouldn’t post in feed photos and carousels. One way that we see this style of content working for creators is to post a photo carousel that includes a video showing the ‘behind-the-shot’.
3. Consistent posting
People always talk about posting consistently, and they get that confused with posting every day. Posting every day or multiple times a day is a great way to get burned out, lose your rhythm, and stop posting altogether. When I say you need to post consistently, I mean pick a schedule and stick to it. So trust me, it does not need to mean posting daily.
Create a schedule that you can keep and then stick to it. Being able to stick to a posting schedule consistently is truly going to help you reach new people and start growing on Instagram in 2022.
4. Engage with your audience
If you want to build an engaged audience, then you’re going to need to engage with them. Reels & a consistent posting schedule will help you bring in more followers, but it’s your job to turn them from followers into loyal fans.
Again, Instagram weighs in: “The easiest way to turn casual followers into fans is by liking, replying, and resharing their responses.”
There are so many ways that you can engage with your followers. You can take the time to reply to their comments, this is a way to invite them to comment and communicate with you more on your posts. When they see that you’ve taken the time to write a helpful reply, they’ll come back to you for more!
You can also have question stickers and polls to your stories.
If you add a question sticker to your stories and you get no responses, respond yourself! You can respond to your own question sticker and then take the time to answer that question in your stories. This will show your audience that if they respond to the question sticker as well, you’ll take the time to answer it.
Finally, a new way that you can engage with your audience is with Reels. You can now create reels to respond to people’s comments and questions on your posts! This is one of the best ways to really engage your audience with your content.
And don’t forget to respond to Instagram DM’s! Don’t leave your audience hanging.
5. Collaborate with other Creators
If you’re finding that you’re not reaching new people on Instagram, a great thing to do is collaborate with someone else. Instagram has said: “Working with other amazing creators introduces your brand to their communities in an authentic way.”
They have also made it easier than ever to collaborate on Instagram with their new feature where a post can show up in both creators’ feeds.
This is a feature I’m really excited to use more in the future (and it’s an amazing way to collaborate with brands as well!)
6. Use SEO on Instagram
The last proven strategy to grow on Instagram in 2022 that I want to share with you is SEO. You might be thinking… “Ummm Tara SEO is for blogging, I just want to grow my Instagram.” Well, girl, you’re right. Normally, SEO is a blogging topic but Instagram has made a point of telling us that SEO is just as important on their platform.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. And while in the past we’ve never considered Instagram to be a ‘search engine’, people do search on the platform. They search for ideas, inspiration, and education. And if you’re not utilizing SEO correctly, then you’re not going to be the one that shows up for them in their search.
For example, I’m an Influencer coach, and I want people on Instagram who are searching for an Influencer coach, to find me. That means I need to make sure that my profile on Instagram is filled with the keywords that my ideal follower would be searching for.
When they type Influencer Coach or #influencercoach into that search bar, I want to be the first person that pops up in their feed!
Make sure that you’re using the proper keywords and hashtags on Instagram to help your ideal followers find you. Ready to learn more about using SEO on Instagram? Read this post next!
