What is a paid Influencer?

An Influencer is a person with the ability to influence potential buyers of a product or service by promoting or recommending the items on social media. And so a paid Influencer is someone who gets paid to do that!
A paid Influencer is someone who is getting paid to influence using their social media and online presence. You can be an Instagram Influencer, TikTok Influencer, or blogger, or have your feet in all of those baskets. But the thing to note here is that you’re being paid to Influence others.
Here’s the caveat… being an Influencer is so much more than snapping pictures and using the right hashtags. To become a paid Influencer in 2022 you need to have an engaged and trusting audience who relates to you and trusts you to help them make decisions. You need to cultivate a relationship with your audience but you also need to be able to pitch brands, discuss payment terms and file your taxes.
There is a lot that goes into launching your Influencer Marketing business. As an Influencer coach, I’m here to help you get started. So if you’ve been asking yourself how you can become a paid Influencer, well keep reading babe!
How do I become a paid Influencer?

Becoming a paid Influencer can be as easy as pitching a brand for a paid sponsorship! But… pitching brands for sponsorships isn’t all that easy. In fact, one of the number one questions that I get asked is, “Tara, how can I pitch brands for paid sponsorship!?”
To become a paid Influencer, first, you need to start building up your influence online. Start communicating with your audience and building up a relationship with them. Engagement is everything these days, so make sure that you’re engaging with the people following you online. Answer their questions, and ask them questions to encourage them to engage with you.
Once you’re built a rapport with your audience and they’ve started to come to you for answers, you can start pitching brands for work. I suggest starting with the brands and things that you already use at home. Create a spreadsheet of everyday brands that you love and know your audience will love. Then do some digging to find their brand partnerships manager.
Next, you need to create your media kit. A media kit is a document that works like a resume. You’ll send it to a brand that you want to work with and it’ll outline your best metrics for them. Make sure you include social links and contact information so that the brand can easily find you.
Alright, so you know who you want to work with and you have a media kit. You’re ready to start pitching brands to become a paid Influencer! Obviously, there’s more that goes into being a paid Influencer, but getting started is as easy as sending out some emails with a high-quality media kit → like this one!

I can remember when I first started working as an Influencer, at this point I just wanted someone else to tell me how much I should charge for a post! Unfortunately, you’re the only one who really knows the value of your content because it so often comes down to your engagement, more than the quality of your content or your follower #.
