In this post, I’m busting 3 myths that could be holding you back as a content creator. As a content creator, I hear so many myths about the industry, like how you can’t make money… how many followers you need and so much more. Today, we are busting those myths with TRUTHS from a full-time influencer.

All too often people get held back from going all-in on the business of their dreams because of myths they’ve heard about an industry. And that’s very much the case with Influencers and Content Creators! You often hear things like… you need to have 100k thousand followers to land brand collaborations. Or you need to join and pitch on every brand collaboration platform because that’s the only way to get started!

In reality, these are just myths! And that’s what I’m here to teach you today. So let’s bust 3 common myths that can hold you back as a Content Creator.

Myth #1 that can hold you back as a content creator - Tweet Image that reads: Myth #1: You have to have a certain number of followers to work with brands. The fact: Micro-Influencers (influencers with less than 50k followers) are among the most valuable influencers out there.

Myth #1: You have to have a certain number of followers to work with brands.

A few years ago, this myth was more real. Influencer marketing came in the form of a huge wave. When it was first ‘discovered’ as a form of potential marketing, brands wanted to work with anyone that had a platform and a voice.

Then… it got competitive and suddenly brands wanted to work with influencers who had 10k, 50k, and upwards of 100k followers.
That is until people started buying followers and engagement. YIKES. Suddenly brands saw less and less return from working with these ‘big’ influencers because they didn’t have a real connection or an authentic relationship with their huge and potentially inauthentic audiences.

How many followers do you need to work with brands?

The fact: Micro-Influencers (influencers with less than 50k followers) are among the most valuable influencers on the planet.

Micro-Influencers generally have a more authentic, real, and engaging relationship with their audience. This is WHY brands want to partner and work with them. Brands want to leverage that trust and authenticity to influence and inform their followers about their products!

A Micro-Influencer with an authentic connection to their audience is going to have more return on investment (ROI) for their brand partner than an influencer with a ton of followers but no real relationship or connection to their audience.

That means you can stop worrying about that follower number going up or down, and instead focus on creating real + meaningful relationships with the people who follow you! Remember, 1,000 followers might not seem like that much when you’re comparing yourself to others, but if you owned a shop and 1,000 people walked in the door, you’d be overwhelmed!

Myth #2 that can hold you back as a content creator. Tweet image that reads: Myth #2: You're too new to land paid brand deals. Fact: Brands only care about 3 things: Do you create high-quality content? Do you have an authentic connection with your followers? Will you deliver what you agreed to deliver?

Myth #2: You’re too ‘new’ to land PAID brand deals

How do you land your first brand deal?

Whether you are an experienced Influencer or a total newbie brands only care about three things:

  • Do you create high-quality content?
  • Do you have an authentic connection with your followers?
  • Will you deliver what you agreed to deliver to them?

If you’ve managed to nail down your content and create an authentic and real relationship with your audience, it doesn’t matter if you started yesterday or 6 years ago.

Don’t set unrealistic barriers for when you can start pitching brands. You can and should be pitching brands NOW. Remember, brands aren’t going to ask you how long you’ve had your Instagram account, or when you wrote your first blog post. If you can do the three things listed above you are more than qualified to work with brands. Plus, if you can show professional results as a newer influencer… you will be even more impressive to a brand.

Myth #3: The only way to get work as a new Content Creator is through Collaboration Platforms

Here’s the Fact: While collaboration platforms can be a good way to book deals and practice working with brands, they’re certainly not the only way.

The best and most profitable way is through pitching your own ideas to the brands you know, use, and love So…
