12 Family Friendly Fall Activities You Should Put on Your Calendar Now!

I know it’s the beginning of September but I legit have my fall decor out Y’all! It’s been a little rainy and overcast here for the past week or so and it just made me jump right into fall with both feet! Fall is by far my favorite season! I just love going outside in the morning to feel the crisp air! It’s my happy place. Keep in mind that I live in Texas though, so even if my mornings are crisp and cool… by like 11 am it’s 94 degrees and my cute sweaters are making exactly zero sense. That’s not gonna stop me from embracing all things fall though! Check out my Fall bucket list below!

Enjoy!

1 | Go to a Football Game

Top of my list this fall is a football game! Nothing says it’s fall like cheering your heart out at a football game! As I said, we’re from Texas so we take our football pretty seriously around here! Not to mention that my husband is an Aggie so…. Yeah. Football is a big deal! We try our best to get in some Aggie football games each season but if we can’t make it to a game they are always on our TV! Another fun thing to do is to go to a local high school game! Even if your kiddos aren’t in high school yet, it’s always fun to support the local teams!

2 | Fall 5K Run

Alright. This one is on the list for two reasons. Being active is important and a 5k is only 3.1ish miles! Now, if you know me then you know I LOVE fitness but I do not LOVE running lol. I have, however, wrapped my mind around running a 5k in the Fall for a couple of reasons. One, It’s cooler so it won’t be so miserable, and two, in the fall, for some reason, there are tons of 5k’s that involve hanging out and having a beer or two at the end. Now, this I can get behind! If you’ve been thinking of challenging yourself to a 5k… I highly suggest you do it in the Fall! 🙂

3 | Make Apple Cider Mimosas

Ok, this one is for my mama’s out there! It’s always fun to try new and festive drinks! This fall you NEED to make Apple Cider Mimosas! They are delicious and the perfect drink for a fall party! They are super easy to make too! All you need is apple cider, champagne, a sugar and cinnamon mixture for the rim, and apple slices to garnish! SO good!

4 | Watch Hocus Pocus

This one is a tradition in my house as of the last um… 2 years I think! You have to watch Hocus Pocus with your kiddos! This is one of my favorite movies. I remember watching it as a kid a loving it! When my girls were about 5 and 7 we tried to watch it for the first time and they weren’t quite there yet… still a little scared of some parts. We tried again the next year when they were 6 and 8 and they loved it! You can just do a quick search for it on your TV and see that it plays probably 10 times throughout the fall! We love to make popcorn and snuggle up on the couch and watch it together! So fun!

5 | Make a Pumpkin Pie

This one is so fun! Here pretty soon you’ll start to see tiny baking pumpkins at your grocery store. I used to just ignore these because I had no idea what they were for. I finally realized that they were pie pumpkins! The smaller ones are a little sweeter so you can do all kinds of stuff with them.  I like to roast them and then puree the insides with a little honey and vanilla. I keep it in the fridge for a quick sweet treat! You can add granola, nuts, or fruit to it too to spice it up! You can also use the hollowed out pumpkin to cook or serve in! Some great suggestions are casseroles, stuffing, or hearty soups!

6 | Take your Christmas Card Photo!

Now this one is more of a reminder but should definitely go on your list of to do’s. If your family does Christmas card photos, now is the time to take them. I personally like to take our photos in the fall because the leaves are pretty and it’s not too cold yet. It’s also a good time to snag a photographer as they get busy towards Christmas…. You know, with all the procrastinators and last minute Mary’s…. Lol. Don’t be a last minute Mary… Schedule yo pics girl! 🙂

7 | Make a pot of Chili!

This one is more for my husband because he’s the king of cooking… but as soon as the weather gets a little hint of coolness I immediately start asking him to make a pot of chili! Now, I’m obviously biased because I think he’s the best cook in the world… ( and he loves to do it! I’m a lucky girl!!) but nothing says Fall like a slow-cooked pot of chili! If you’re not into cooking you could always grab a bowl at your favorite restaurant or hit up a local fair that’s having a chili cook-off! So fun!

8 | Host a bonfire! My fave!!

OK, I don’t know why this one is so far down the list. It should be number one! One of my absolute favorite things to do when the weather turns cooler is have a bonfire! I grew up having and going to bonfires. I just love sitting around the fire with good friends, good music, and watching the fire do its thing. The kids love to roast marshmallows and run around with their friends too. If you don’t have access to a place to host your own bonfire you can always do a campfire while on a camping trip or even a small bonfire at the beach!

9 | Spend a day antiquing! (Round top!)

I know I’ve said this like five times, but this is truly one of my favorite things in the world! I LOVE with a capital L to go antiquing in the Fall. We are pretty lucky to live about an hour from one of the largest antique fairs in the country. If you’re into Fixer Upper, then you know about Round Top Texas! This little gem is everything Y’all. They have a Spring and Fall show and we go to each every year! I love to go with girlfriends to shop as well as my family too! There is so much to see and do! If you don’t have something like this near you, you could always find the nearest antiquing destination to you and plan a fun road trip!

10 | Decorate for fall!

This one is fun to do with the kiddos for sure! We love to decorate for Fall! There’s something about getting the box down from the attic and seeing all the fun fall decorations that gets the kids so excited! I also think that my fall decor is my favorite so I’m always a little sad to put it away… getting it back out just makes me happy! I had a small collection at first but over the years it has really grown! We love to decorate with pumpkins, cute chalkboard signs, and lots of warm fall colors!

11 | Bake a Fall treat!

My girls LOVE to bake, especially Ava! She wants to be a baker when she grows up, so this is always at the top of her list! Baking with your kids is one of those things that sticks with them you know! I feel like they will always remember making cookies, baking a pie, or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen! Some fun fall treats to try would be an apple pie, fun fall cookies for a teacher, or pumpkin bread!

12 | Add a Fall scent to your home!

Oh my goodness. We made it to number 12! I honestly feel like I could keep going but the list is getting long! This one’s for you if you’re just not feeling the fall vibe yet! If you were rolling your eyes at those PSL’s (Pumpkin Spice Latte) or thinking to yourself… Look, I don’t do Fall till October, or you just can’t seem to jump on the Fall train because it’s still 100 degrees where you live…. This one will snap you outta of those summer vibes and have you making a trip to Starbucks for that Latte! You gotta get some Fall scents going in your house! My favorite thing to do is make a pot of Fall scented stovetop potpourri! It’s so easy! You just throw ½ a lemon, ½ an apple, 4 cinnamon sticks, 2 whole cloves, and 1 tsp vanilla into a pot with water and simmer on low all day!! Your house will smell amazing! Just add water to it when it gets low! SO good Y’all!!

Alright! That’s it, babe! I hope this makes you wanna pull your sweaters out, buy some new fall boots, and drink all the lattes!! But, if you’re not quite there yet, no worries, just save this list and hit it up when you feel the fall vibes coming your way!

Enjoy!
